Restoring Reliable Off-Grid Solar Power for the Orang Asli Community
The off-grid Solar PV system at Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Selangi has been operating since December 2024, following funding provided by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT). The project was made possible through the collaboration of several institutions, including IKM (TVET MARA), Polytechnics, Community Colleges, IKBN, and various industry partners.
The community has been relying on this renewable energy system as their primary source of electricity for daily activities.
However, shortly before the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations, we were informed that the system had stopped operating following heavy rainfall and intense lightning. In response, Zulkarnain Noorden and the team from Sustainable & Innovation Engineering Sdn. Bhd. visited the site to carry out maintenance and restore the system.
MAINTENANCE WORK CARRIED OUT
- Reactivating the battery pack after it entered protection (sleep) mode due to the Battery Management System (BMS) voltage.
- Servicing the inverter and performing a comprehensive inspection of the overall system.
The maintenance was successful, and the entire system is now operating normally again, allowing the villagers to resume their daily activities with a stable electricity supply.
One of the most memorable moments was our arrival at the village. Many residents gathered at the community hall and happily said, "The solar team has arrived—we'll have electricity again!" Their reaction reminded us how essential this system is to their daily lives.
