Malaysia Accelerates Renewable Energy Adoption with Solar PV and BESS
Malaysia is taking another significant step towards strengthening renewable energy integration with the introduction of the sixth Large Scale Solar (LSS6) programme.
The programme includes 2,500 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity paired with 1,250 MW of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity, demonstrating the growing role of energy storage in Malaysia's future electricity infrastructure.
The integration of BESS with solar PV enables excess renewable energy to be stored and dispatched when required, helping improve energy flexibility and support the stability of the electricity system.
This development highlights the increasing importance of Solar PV + BESS + Energy Management Systems (EMS) in Malaysia's transition towards a more flexible, reliable and sustainable energy future.
What This Means for Businesses
As energy storage adoption grows, BESS can provide opportunities for commercial and industrial users to:
- Store excess solar energy for later use
- Reduce peak electricity demand
- Improve energy utilisation
- Enhance energy resilience
- Support renewable energy integration
- Optimise energy consumption through intelligent EMS control
Prospek Lestari supports the development of sustainable energy solutions by integrating renewable energy, energy storage and intelligent energy management technologies.
